Most brides only get to wear their wedding dress once, but as photographers, since our wedding back in 2012, Katriina has put it on multiple times for the following series. The dress has spent quite a few hours bundled up in the trunk of our car, but we never know when we'll want to pull over and take some photos. Needless to say it has gone through a bit of a beating as Katriina trampled through nature with it, but it's totally worth it.
Summer
Big Sur
From Yosemite we took off down the coast towards LA. Because Yosemite is a couple hours from the coast we ended up driving most of HWY 1 at night. We got to make a few stops before clouds blew over and darkness set in. Bixby Bridge is a pretty iconic place so we stopped and snapped a few photos and looked around. We took off from there not without incident. The Caravan hatch flew open as we drove off and a camera bag and quadcopter hit the pavement behind us (aside from a few scratches and dents everything was OK). We stopped for about an hour at Pfeiffer Beach as we made our way down the coast. There were lots of nice rock formations and passages in the rocks where waves would crash through.
Yosemite National Park
If you didn't know this before you know it now; California is experiencing a drought.
Typically Yosemite National Park has plenty of amazing waterfalls and pools brimming with water. When we went there were two measly waterfalls and even those turned into mist before hitting the water below. Regardless it is a stunning place with a lot of explorable nature. We hiked, we swam, we camped, we explored. The highlight of our stay was probably climbing up a rocky hillside in the evening as the sun set and watching the golden light dip behind the hills. We camped for 3 nights here and while it was a little cramped (just because a tent advertises it can hold 6 people doesn't mean it should) it was nice to be under the stars and away from the city for a few days.
There is nothing quite like a dip in freezing cold water below a water fall after hiking in the hot sun all day. The water was uncomfortably cold..but it was an experience.
