Back to School

For this session, we had the lovely pleasure of shooting one of Katriina's old friend's from high school. Her boyfriend would soon be leaving to the States for school so we thought it'd be nice to get some photos of them together before he went adventuring outside of dear ol' Ottawa.

We did some of the photos at Algonquin College (they have a pretty cool plant wall and glass bridge), and then treated ourselves with some Suzy Q donuts afterwards.

Suzy Q makes a Finnish style donut (think sugar & spice) and boy, oh boy was I excited to try it. NOM NOM NOM.

Strawberry Summer Pt. II

Okay, so this post is somewhat improperly named as it does also involve raspberries, but I decided to run with it regardless.

Last weekend I got the lovely opportunity to go berry picking on Saturday morning with a friend who was just as eager to get some berries before the season ended. Turns out we were both in the same boat in that every time Strawberry season rolls around we've been wanting to go, but somehow life happens and next thing you know it - it's the end of July! Typically though - I'm a big advocate for picking local. Not just for the support-local movement, or the childhood memories it brings, but because fresh, Ontario strawberries just taste WAY better than those ginormous California ones.

We are not quite so homemaker-esque as some people who fill baskets upon baskets of berries in order to stock up on jam and pies, but what can you expect for young couples with tiny freezers?

We also got a small basket each of raspberries while we were there. Maybe it's because I spend too much time in a candy store, but doesn't the bottom picture look exactly like the Dutch raspberry candies

Strawberry Summer

Have I mentioned I love summer? And food? And free things? On a Sunday evening adventure yesterday, I found the trifecta of those three things. Wild strawberries growing alongside the path, ripe for the picking.

Some of my friends were not so trusting of my cultivating skills, but my Finnish senses would not lead me astray on this matter. Check out this Google image search (Finland - Wild Strawberries) if you don't understand. It's traditional to thread them on to a piece of sturdy grass/greenery. I don't know why they do it, but it's cute! Keep an eye out for them on your next walk in the countryside.
